Are wigs covered by health insurance or government funding in Australia?
Yes. If you’re experiencing medical hair loss, you may be eligible for financial support through Australian government funding schemes and charitable organisations. These programs are designed to ease the cost of high-quality wigs for people undergoing treatment or living with permanent conditions like alopecia.
We regularly assist clients with the following programs:
Wig funding through EnableNSW (New South Wales)
EnableNSW provides government funding for individuals with permanent hair loss due to medical conditions such as cancer, alopecia, or autoimmune diseases.
Eligible clients may receive:

Up to $2,000 every 3 years towards a human hair wig

Funding for up to two synthetic wigs per year, up to $300 each
To apply, you’ll need a medical certificate or referral. We can assist with providing official quotes and documentation to support your application.

Wig subsidy from SWEP (Victoria)
The State Wide Equipment Program (SWEP) supports Victorian residents experiencing medically related hair loss.
Subsidy amounts include:
